We collect no personal data
- There is no account to create, so the app has nowhere to enter a name, email address or phone number.
- The app makes no network connections. QNit runs no server for this app, and the app contains no usage tracking, analytics or advertising SDK.
- Purchases and payments are handled by Apple on the Mac App Store. QNit receives no buyer names or payment information.
What the app reads and changes
The app runs in the App Sandbox and asks for none of the privacy permissions (Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Screen Recording, Automation). The table below is everything it handles.
| What it handles | What it reads and changes | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Key mapping | Reads and writes macOS’s key mapping setting (UserKeyMapping, the same setting hidutil changes) | Remaps Caps Lock to F18 and swaps the Option and Command keys on both sides. Choosing the checked layout again clears the setting |
| Caps Lock | Reads the keyboard’s Caps Lock state, and sets it when you choose the Caps Lock item in the menu | Shows the check mark in the menu and the Caps Lock symbol in the menu bar |
| Input source | The current input source’s name, language and icon, and the notification that the input source has changed | Briefly shows the new input source in the menu bar |
| System shortcuts | Whether F18 and Control-Space are turned on as shortcuts (read only) | Works out whether the input source shortcuts need setting up, and guides you if they do |
The app never reads what you type. What it reads is only shown in its menu and menu bar, and is never saved to a file or sent anywhere.
What stays on your Mac
| Item | What it holds | How to remove it |
|---|---|---|
| Settings | The last layout you chose | Cleared when you choose the checked layout once more. To remove everything, delete the app, then delete the ~/Library/Containers/kr.co.qnit.keyboard-layout-switcher folder |
| Key mapping | The key settings for the chosen layout. Kept by macOS and cleared on restart | Choose the checked layout once more, or restart your Mac |
| Login item | Whether “Open at Login” is on. Kept by macOS | Turn it off in the menu, or in System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions |
Sharing with third parties and outsourcing
Because QNit receives no personal data, it neither shares personal data with third parties nor outsources its processing.
Children’s personal data
The app collects no one’s personal data, and that includes children under the age of 14.
